Sophomore Summit
The Sophomore Summit is a 2-day overnight event for Emory and Oxford students that provides a safe space to connect with peers, hear from professors and alumni, and discover concrete next steps for their future.
This dynamic summit is composed of:
- Short talks from student leaders, staff, and faculty
- Small group conversations facilitated by student leaders
- Young alumni panel and lunch conversation
- Information about internships, research, jobs, and other meaningful opportunities
- Time to relax, reflect, and enjoy the outdoors

Pierce Hand Seitz 11C
Judge, Municipal Court of Atlanta
Judge Pierce Hand Seitz is a proud Atlanta native and a judge in the Municipal Court of Atlanta. After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Emory University, he began his journey in public service as a high school teacher in Atlanta Public Schools. He later enrolled in law school and obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Georgia State University College of Law.

The Sophomore Summit is an opportunity for 2nd-year students to:
- Gain essential insights about themselves, their interests, and future career paths.
- Explore what they want to do in life.
- Improve confidence and reduce anxiety about the future.
- Make valuable connections with people who want to see you achieve your goals.
Attire for the Summit is casual.
Tennis shoes/sneakers, jeans, sweatpants, and hoodies are all appropriate. It may be cold at night and in the mornings; please layer accordingly.
There are also optional low ropes courses and recreation activities for attendees.
Yes. Due to the Summit design, students must attend both days of the Summit.
Participants must also utilize the provided transportation to and from the event. Alternative transportation is not allowed to the campsite or returning to campus.
This event is intended for students in their 2nd year at Emory’s Atlanta & Oxford campuses.
However, there are opportunities for 3rd and 4th Year students to serve as Peer Leaders for the Summit. If you are interested, consider completing the Peer Leader application.
The Summit is not a traditional networking event.
However, one of the benefits of The Summit is that students will connect with faculty, staff, alums, and fellow Emory students.
This will be done through organic and organized conversations that can provide deeper and richer connections for participants.
